Bloom Where You Are Planted

I happen to be near Charlotte NC in the USA but I want to network with anyone, anywhere in the world who is interested in space business.

Mr. Radley:

On point #5 five, I respectfully differ on your statement that the space community does not understand the energy business.
Reason One: many space entrepreneurs come from the energy business especially in Texas
Reason Two: Satellites use solar panels and rockets are the energy, if you will allow the imprecision, that gets them into orbit.
Reason Three: Some space entrepreneurs specialize in powersats.

If I might add, the way forward for those who want to pursue solar power in space is to gather together as many people interested in the subject as possible and plot a strategy forward. Heck, if you get a hundred or two hundred people in one room interested in this subject and lock the doors until they figure something out, how could that many people NOT have the intellectual and financial resources to at least move closer to a goal?

My own interests lie elsewhere but I sincerely hope these thoughts help somebody.

Responses to group moderator:

1. Is there any project that we can do as a group? (We'll decide later if we should do it. Right now, we're just exploring what's possible.)

---That depends on the expertise, skills and experience of each member. Need resumes. You can see mine on linkedin.com

2. Are there resources where you're located that would benefit the group?

There are various collaboration tools which might be relevant, many of them free, such as Joomla, bugzilla and some free project planning tools. somebody would need to set up a server, install the tools, and grant access to users.

3. Is there a big for-profit company you can identify that might be a strategic ally of the BWYP group?

------The group needs to find a product or service it can provide, and a market for it. Then your other questions will answer themselves.

4. Is there an advertiser or advertising agency that might want to sponsor us?

------I do not really understand the question. The group needs to find a product or service it can provide, and a market for it. Then your other questions will answer themselves.

5. What is your number one most important need you have? As a space entrepreneur? For your space business? For your space company?

-------Cannot find sources of revenue adequate to justify the up front investments required. Been pondering this problem for 30 years or so, I still seem to be stuck on this one. The biggest revenue earner looks like space solar power, but the main stream energy cabal is not interested and it does not get any air play. The space community does not understand the energy business, so it is dead in the water.

Mr. Hook is in Texas, not far from Houston so I assume he is okay for now.

Mr Graczyk is in Warsaw which is the capital of Poland. I have seen European space directories which have entries for Poland.

Mr. Swain is not far from Detroit therefore he is no doubt working on a space car.

Mr. Bowman, yours truly, is in a suburb outside Charlotte which is the banking capital of the world (at least they think so). If anyone needs a loan, I can introduce you to a few people. I used to work for a bank also.

Please correct me if I have misjudged your situation. We're here to help each other. Thank you.

Oregon has little commercial space activity? I've got to research that. Your state has got to be more active than South Carolina. A lot of times space entrepreneurs assume that they are alone in the universe and don't realize that the space industry has its own directories separate from the aviation industry.

Let me know if this helps. If it doesn't, I'll put my thinking cap back on.

I am in Oregon, and there is very little commercial space in this state. No problem, I can telecommute, I have FIOS internet and VOIP. Happy to collaborate wherever I might be a good fit.
