There's an access to airspace issue brewing with the FAA concerning something called ADS-B. For those in the space vehicle design business, if you haven't rolled reception and bandwidth requirements of this Next Generation aircraft transponder into your design, you could find yourself missing GNC and telemetry issues and opportunities. There are security elements that deal with the installation and proper use of the ADS-B system, so this topic really does fall within the realm of security.

Observations, agreements/disagreements from anyone? Anyone working this?

When times get tough, security must get tougher. When money begins to shrink, you really have to ensure that you and your employees are following security protocols with your sensitive information. Let me explain why.

A recent business security study conducted in Europe determined that over 80% of company employees have access to sensitive company information: client lists, supplier & pricing lists, and sensitive product development information. Nearly 50% said that they would be able to take that information without their company knowing about it. And 1 out of 3 said that they would be willing to sell that information to a competitor for the right price.

If your employees sense that their jobs are at risk of "right-sizing" or that your company is in jeopardy of closing, you must absolutely make sure that your information protection protocols are followed. If you don't have a security plan with a sensitive information protection annex that you actually use, now is the time to do it. Otherwise, when your next employee gives you 2-weeks notice, there may be much more missing when they leave than just their body from one of your chairs.

Survive the downturn and prepare for an even stronger economy. Protect your company's sensitive and proprietary information!

Greetings and Happy New Year to all. I'd like to welcome the newest members to our group: Joe Lufkin, Filippo De Rose, huband and wife team Will Griffith & Alysyn Bourque, Dakota Brach, Sara Rosen, and Caleb. Welcome aboard!

This year is going to be an interesting time for security. As business owners and promoters we all balance on Achim's Razor when it comes to promoting our businesses and capabilities without exposing precious intellectual properties to our competition. In security the simplest solution isn't always the best as Mr. Achim would have us believe. When the economy is tight for entrepreneurial funding, so protecting what is rightfully ours is an even greater imperative to survival in the business jungle.

Let's start off with this topic for 2009: As business owners and fiduciaries, does your company e-mail policy allow any employee to send attachments without first receiving approval? Do you allow anyone in your organization to send Word or PowerPoint-type documents via e-mail attachments? If so, let me introduce you to the "PowerPoint microdot." Because if you're not already checking the file sizes of these attachments, you may be hemhorraging company business secrets and intellectual property.
