Beatriz’ “BeBe” Kelly-Serrato
Principal Scientist and Engineering Consultant
Aerospace-Science Consulting Consortia, LLC, SDB
Beatriz “BeBe” Kelly-Serrato is passionate about space exploration and IT security communications; though she believes exploration and the war against terrorism is not without risk, it is necessary to grow and create a vision for our future. Three elements are required for success, marketing, a survival plan for our planet Earth, and vision. Her unique challenge is a transition from aerospace engineering to security and communications integration as the CEO of and aerospace company, which is a full time and mindful task; she offers a myriad of skills to any potential customer or employer. She will revive her skills to the level required and more to accomplish the tasks for the client.
BeBe Kelly was born in Monterrey, Mexico, and her family moved to Iowa when she was just 6 months old. Raised bilingual in English and Spanish, she moved to Texas at the end of the forth grade. She graduated from Bellaire High School and attended Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, earning a Bachelor of Science in Geology and minored in Geophysics, she continued her studies to complete all necessary for a Secondary Education Degree in Composite Science Education. BeBe is also an accomplished vocalist and is the independent small business owner of Vocals Unlimited, dba and Glass of Class Jazz Ensemble and the CEO and Principal Consultant of Aerospace – Science Consulting Consortia, LLC, SDB. The company will attain 8a certification by the end of 2010 so it is building strength. The next step is to build it's virtual presence of consultants.
BeBe Kelly-Serrato is the mother of three children Christine Gietzen, an accomplished vocalist and independent small business owner of PridePurrfect Gifts LLC, Matthew Kelly a software engineer and Photographer of Phuture Photography, dba and Stephen B. Kelly a software technician both sons working for Spectrum Corporation, Stephen is also a Chef and owns Innovative Cooking Solutions. BeBe Kelly-Serrato has been a single mother since 1988. Her children are all grown and pursuing their individual paths and goals.
BeBe has worked as an IT computer engineering security specialist, scientist, and aerospace engineer. She recently consulted for Boeing Space Systems as a Safety Integration Engineer, before she was the System Engineering Manager for Command and Data Handling, providing critical support to the Johnson Space Center (JSC) Engineering Avionics Directorate. Prior to that assignment, Kelly-Serrato was Systems Manager Engineer supporting NASA’s Fight Crew and Thermal Systems, Crew Environmental and Health Systems, and On Orbit Information Systems. She held many positions in the private and government sectors including providing security network infrastructure for the USAF. One of Kelly-Serrato’s most fascinating projects was to provide communication support for International Space Station astronauts during missions lasting 6 months on average. Her work on the Cisco IP Phone project allows the crews to stay in contact with their families. She especially enjoyed supporting Increment 13 in 2006 because her friend and fellow church member, Jeff Williams, was a member of the crew. The actual task was completed during Increment 5 Dr. Peggy Whitson’s command, the commander honored BeBe with an award for her work on this project and this was extended to the entire team.
Her current challenge is her transition from engineering management and to return to IT communications security integration, which is a full time and mindful task. Several skills must be integrated as well as study for various certifications. This is a full transition and will require time and expense but will be well worth the effort. She plans to work this into her plan for A-SCC, llc, sdb while pursuing 8a certification for the company. Building the Consulting Consortia for a strong presence to support the paradigm for space exploration may very well become devised by commercial entities. Therefore, she is looking for other like-minder consulting consortia members to join A-SCC and create a new space exploration initiative.
To fulfill her dream of a robust space program that will retain human space flight, BeBe is an active volunteer in the space community. She served as President and PR Director of the Mars Society of Houston for several years, organizing regular speaker meetings, a popcorn series of lectures at Rice University and JSC, the Mars Close Approach event jointly held with Lunar Planetary Institute and JSC Astronomical Society, and Mars Houston Special award dinners to recognize young leaders. BeBe Kelly-Serrato is the AIAA Space Operations Technical Chair. She is a new member of the Space Renaissance Initiative and an active speaker and consultant to the 4Frontiers Corporation operation in Florida. Audiences large and small have heard BeBe talk on such subjects as how maintenance and reliability concepts apply to the space program and in other facets of our everyday lives. She is applying her talents in science, engineering, music, and as a caring community leader, to explore and share the wonders the universe has to offer. Her present goal takes her to support her county against foreign threats.
