PROMOTING GLOBAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP IN SPACE VENTURES

Scenario: you're an established firm and are considering developing machines for future use on the Moon, but you need a revenue stream now to pay for the development of your machines that won't be sold for many years.

What do you think of these potential business models:
1. Not-for-profit consortium of companies funded by donations and sales of licensing and manufacturing rights
2. New start-up business initially funded by angel investors and venture capital, with subsequent funding from additional investments and/or public offerings
3. Public-private partnership with 50/50 public/private funding

Do you have other ideas?

Thank you.

Jeff:

IMHO, #2 is a non starter. Angels and VCs have significently shorter planning horizons than what I presume to be your schedule. With #1 I'd be concerned about the consortium board members ending up running the group before you got to the point that there was something worth fighting over. #3, in conjunction with the Federal Gov or a university is probably your best bet.

Is there a way to produce the machines on an evolutionary track that allows you to sell them and make money *today*, but positions you for the eventual market?

Thank you, Andy. Good question at the end, something I'll work on.
